Try going to Lopez Island with your best friend. Lay on the beach in front of your house and read a book or take a nap. Go for a row around Shoal Bay, or ride your bike to Lopez Village. Sail to Friday Harbor. Take ferry trips to charming places and play Polish Poker the entire way there. Eat ice cream. Watch movies. Climb around some tidepools at Sharks Reef and look for starfish and sea lions. Feed some deer in your backyard. Go for a run to Spencer Spit, and climb some rocks at Whatmough Bight. Get some gourmet seafood at the Bay Cafe, and top it off with an ice cream float from the old-fashioned soda fountain.

Sounds lovely, right?
I've decided that Lopez is the greatest place in the world. This is an informal, undocumented evaluation, but I think it might actually be impossible to get stressed there. Everything is just sort of taken down a notch. (Exhibit A - Bumper Sticker on truck in village parking lot: Slow down. This isn't the mainland.) People wave at you when you pass them in your car, and there isn't a stoplight on the entire island.
Who needs cool places like Europe and South America when you can just go up near the Canadian border and have way more fun than all the tourists waiting in line to get up the Eiffel Tower? (read: Mackenzie sometimes becomes desperately jealous of her friends who have enough money and/or connections to travel all over and, you know, maybe stay in quaint English countryside cottages and has to remind herself that her life has many perks as well...)
Here's some pictoral proof that Lopez can hold its own (but don't tell anyone. I don't want it to get crowded up there.):
Oh, and you might also see a wild white peacock??
